Katie Sax hands over her heart-opening premier album, Close Your Eyes

Portland newcomer, Katie Sax, shares a coming-of-age journey on her debut album, Close Your Eyes, with Portland’s BentBeat Productions.

PORTLAND, OREGON, USA, September 15, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ --
No, Katie doesn’t play the sax, but she does get that question on occasion.  Growing up in a small town, and like many others, struggled with discouragement and gloom as she sought to find her place.  Everyone searches for a different outlet, and she was no different.  While sitting at her piano, Katie decided that her story needed a soundtrack.

“I really needed to know who I was as a person, so I turned to music.”  Katie recalled, “To not sugar-coat it, I was depressed.  Music was my escape, the one thing I could turn to.  I guess you could say that I used it as my own, personal kind of therapy.”

Katie’s story developed in the years following as she simultaneously grew as a songwriter and artist.  She was serving on the music team at her church-on-the-corner in Tigard, which is where she drew the attention of Dave Beatty at BentBeat Productions

“The BentBeat Team had just finished recording one of Katie’s early songs in February of 2020.  When, all the sudden, we had to change the way we went about preparing a full-length album,” said Beatty, referring to the pandemic shutdown that included music studios.  “I assigned producer Krista Westfall to collaborate with Katie.  They spent a lot of time working from home, writing and polishing the songs that would become Close Your Eyes.”

The work features performances by Portland-area musicians such as: Jordan Sings (@jordansingspdx), regularly seen performing on the Portland International Airport concourses, on the duet “Til I Die,” pianist Tim Downing (Natalie Grant, Danny Gokey), guitar player Austin Kvalvik (Nathaniel Chapman, Matthew Aarness), and violinist Maddie Desmond, prominently appearing with Downing on both the title track, “Close Your Eyes,” and on the album’s first single, “Complicated.”

“I am grateful to the team I worked with. Just being in the room as the songs grew and changed, was crazy in the best way.” Katie continued. “I really hope that people hear my music and find something that they can relate to on a deeper level than just another song on the radio.”

Katie is looking forward to writing more songs, traveling and sharing her music everywhere she goes.

Matthew Aarness Delivers a Creative Collection of Northwest-Flavored Musical Treats with His Debut, Resolver.

Resolver by Matthew Aarness
Singer-Songwriter Matthew Aarness shares his Northwest-themed Bigfoot to the Portland Shanghai Tunnels on his debut album, Resolver, with BentBeat Productions.

PORTLAND, OREGON, USA, July 18, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ – Not just any artist can write and record an album that has a range from sasquatch to the infamous downtown tunnels, but Matthew Aarness brings it.  “Bigfoot” and “Shanghai Moon,” in addition to eight more songs from Aarness’ soul and mind, appear together on his debut album, Resolver, on the Portland-based BentBeat Productions flagship label.

“When I casually sat down with Matthew (Aarness), I asked him to show me some of his material,” recalled the album’s producer Dave Beatty at BentBeat.  “He grabbed a guitar, immediately played (‘Bigfoot’), and I was hooked.”

Aarness seizes each moment in his life as an opportunity to write a song.  “Riverboat,” “Die a Cat,” and the imagery of “The Submarine We Built” all show his depth and development as an artist.  His romantic side hits home on the album’s first single, “Done Building Rome”

Aarness was born in and is a resident of Oregon, and his extended family lives in the Idaho Falls area.  Aarness pours his heart out in the lyrics to each song, and apparent on the track “The Light We Share.”

“I wrote the song ‘The Light We Share’ for my teenage daughter, Juliette (16), with whom I have not spent as much time with as I would have liked to as of late,” said Aarness, welling up with tears.  “I was able to reconnect with her during the process of recording this album, and it was very special to me.  I look forward to spending more time with her.”  Aarness has two other children, David (25), and Pearl (8).

The whimsical black and white cover of Resolver was drawn by Aarness’ niece, Leah Crystal, paying clear homage to a mid-1960’s album cover from the Fab Four bearing a very similar name.

Aarness is set to host album release parties in both Idaho and Oregon:  The Nice Spot Mercantile & Coffee Bar on Friday, July 22 at 6pm, 395 Lindsay Blvd in Idaho Falls.  And at BentBeat Productions’ Studio on Tuesday, July 26th at 6pm, 8532 SW St. Helens Dr., #150 in Wilsonville.

You can find Matthew Aarness at matthewaarnessmusic.com and on social media at @matthewaarnessmusic

Resolver is available for sale on Amazon, and is streaming now on Apple Music, YouTube Music, Spotify and wherever you find great music.

Cassie Jo Calls Back to Classic Country with “Broken at the Crossroads”

Portland-based artist, Cassie Jo, releases her retro-country debut album with BentBeat Productions.

Portland, OR, December 17, 2021 – (pr.com) – Searching radio stations today for country music is often challenging.  It can be difficult to quickly identify modern country stations from any other pop or adult contemporary music.  Cassie Jo’s debut album, “Broken at the Crossroads,” reminds us of days gone past.

Cassie Jo, a Portland native, was raised in a home where music was always a major part of her life.

“Country Music has always been about storytelling, and boy do I have a story to tell," commented Cassie Jo.  “I grew up listening to Bob Seger, AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses. I transitioned to country during middle school with Reba McEntire, The Chicks, and Shania Twain. More recently, Miranda Lambert and Pistol Annies."

With songs like “She’s Not Loving Him,” “Couldn’t Be You,” and “Give Me Good Reason,” Cassie Jo’s choices on song titles are reminiscent of Country Music’s long history of life’s love and pain.  The album’s single, “Last Star,” features her signature acoustic guitar style and soaring vocal chorus.

"Mom got me my first guitar,” reminisces Cassie Jo, referring to her mother, Reda Bell Stroup. “I memorized the picture chords out of a vintage music book. Even though I was in choir and band, music theory was not my strong suit. I played what sounded good.  Music has pulled me through some rough, bumpy roads.  Releasing this album signifies my healing."

BentBeat Producers Austin Kvalvik and Krista Westfall took the helm to assist Cassie Jo see her vision come to life in the studio.  Enlisting local Oregon artists such as Dustin Rose, playing Bend-made Breedlove acoustic guitars, Paul Harris and Matt Sumner, both on drums and percussion, Maddie Desmond on violin, as well as tapping BentBeat’s owner, Dave Beatty, on acoustic guitar and keyboards.

“The BentBeat Team did a great job taking Cassie Jo through the album she wanted to record,” said Beatty.  “Austin’s electric guitar and Krista’s vocal work was exactly what these songs needed. If I listen (to the album) while closing my eyes, the songs bring back memories of endless hours driving through the Midwest, tuning into AM radio as a youth.”

“Broken at the Crossroads” album is available for sale on Amazon (CD), and is streaming now on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and wherever you find great music.
